Wet Day

Quote of the day: “There’s no quarterbackness.” — Professor Bryan Cuevas, unsuccessfully attempting to explain anatman (the no-self doctrine) in my Buddhist Tradition class

Monday was wet. Wetter than wet. I mean it poured all day. I got soaked on more than one occasion. I wore clothes that wouldn’t absorb water (nylon snap pants baby!) and I still got wet. My suitemate Dave took a dive in the mud when he was trying to come home. His day was worse than mine.

Monday is A-Team and Worship Team day, much like Tuesday was last semester, except this semester I’m the only one who is in both. A-Team was pretty cool because Joel Helms came and did some team building exercises with us, teaching us the value of good communication. He didn’t finish all that he wanted to get to, but he’s coming back next week. I know what one of the two are that will be next week, and I can’t wait for it. It’s one of my favorite teamwork illustrations.

Worship Team had an announcement that (for me at least) was a little unexpected. I guess if you had asked me if I thought it might happen I would have told you it was a possibility, it’s just that I hadn’t heard any mumblings of it. Maybe that means I’m successfully avoiding gossip. Or maybe I’m painfully uninformed. In either event, Rob is now the team leader, taking over for Scott. Which is cool. Scott’s done a great job. I get the impression it’s a job he never really wanted, but it was a job he was willing to do when there was no one else to take it on.

Personally I thought it was our best practice in ages. And no, not because of new leadership. I think it had a lot to do with there being less time issues. People weren’t checking their watches constantly (well, Beasley was, but he had a good reason), trying to figure out how much time there was until the next class/team/appointment came up. We had a chance to not only practice, but worship. I don’t think I’ve worshiped in a practice since last spring. I guess it’s because of the time of day. Both now and last spring the practices have been at night, making practice the last thing of the day rather than sandwiched into the middle. I’m a fan.

Today is a slower day, thank God. I’ve got a lot of reading and writing to do over the next week. I have a Buddhism paper due tomorrow. Yet another class where I get to write 2-3 pages on something I don’t believe. I can’t wait to graduate.
