The Graveyard Shift

Everyone who told me that I was an idiot for taking a job with Night Staff needs to read this.

You were right.

I just went through my first, and last, night of Night Staff last night. A woman named Tai let me shadow her shift for the evening. She was extremely helpful and was a good teacher. I feel bad that I’m quitting because she really went out of her way to make sure I knew the things I needed to know.

So I set my alarm for 4 PM today. I figured that would give me about 8 1/2 hours of sleep, and I’d still have some time to get other things done. I didn’t wake up until almost 5 PM. I completely slept through my alarm. And I woke up still tired. The only reason I woke up at all was because my roommate was packing up to go out of town for the weekend and was making some noise doing it. I took a shower and I thought I was going to die. I could hardly stand up.

On top of being exhausted, I think I either am coming down with something or I dehydrated myself severely. Either way, all of my muscles really hurt, and my sinuses are all clogged up.

I now know why they call it the graveyard shift.

I emailed my resignation just a few minutes ago. I’m disappointed it didn’t work out. The money would have been great for my Florence trip. But I seriously think I would die if I worked that job.
