So just to recap on the events of Friday afternoon, evening, and the longest Saturday ever…
We didn’t get the purchase order. The SGA treasurer never came in on Friday. Jerk. But I’m not bitter. Well, I was on Friday, but not today. So at about 6 PM Tasha and I go to Sam’s club and Publix, spending about $100 on the bare minimum of what we’d need. Burgers, hot dogs, buns, chips, powdered drink, some veggies to go on the burgers, and some dessert items. We didn’t want to spend too much money, and we were just hoping that what we got would be enough to feed all who came.
I get back to my dorm at about 9 PM. I’m in a bad mood and there’s people in my sleeping space. You should know by now that that’s a bad combination. Next year it’ll be so nice to have the bedroom upstairs. So I give Koz and Suz the boot, and Andy goes with them. And I can’t sleep. Crap. I watch part four of Band Of Brothers and thankfully I get sleepy after that. I probably fell asleep at midnight.
I got up bright and early at 3 AM. I packed up everything I’d need all day (except my camera, DOH!), including my pillow and sleeping bag. I’m downstairs looking for my ride and some dude yells at me, “Hey, I’ll take a pizza.” I’m like, “I don’t got a pizza.” But he says it again, “I’ll take a pizza.” I’m like, “Bro, you’re a moron. I’m holding a backpack, a sleeping bag, and a pillow. No pizza. Get sober already.” So he shut up. I think he thought my red pillow case was one of those pizza holders. Still, he’s a drunk raving lunatic who’s loitering outside my home. Anywhere else in America that would be illegal, but not on a college campus. Just my luck.
Jon picks me up and we head to Tom Brown Park. We get there at about 4 AM. We find the site we want: it’s next to the lake and a big field (for kickball) and has a covered pavilion. I roll out my sleeping bag and get some sleep. I probably slept for about another 3 horus, but badly. Jon said he didn’t sleep for more than 15 minute intervals. I did a little better I think. I got up for good at 7 AM.
When David Whitefield showed up with the grill I was very happy. He had been running a little late and I was wondering if he was going to show at all. But he did, and he brought a lot of food along with him. I don’t know how many pound, but pounds of sausage, pounds of beans, many more loaves of bread. What a blessing! He donated all of it. Not only that, but he cooked everything. So we ending up spending $100 on enough food for two or three picnics.
As for the day itself, it was fun. I had no energy at all, so I didn’t play any kickball. I barely ate anything either. I just didn’t feel that good. But most everyone else seemed to have a really good time. Dave Wirgau seemed to think this was the best year end event ever. I wouldn’t know, I’ve only been to two. But I did enjoy it.
While I was there Scott Beasley asked me to pray about joining his band. I have to say, this surprised me. I look at the quality of musicians that he has currently in his band and I’m a step or two below. But, since I’m not the one with the plan, I told him I’d pray about it. I don’t know. I can’t imagine God telling me to pursue this, but I’m going to try to pray about it without any of my own bias.
I finally got home at about 4 PM. At about 6:20 I crashed into bed. At 2 AM I got up to take some Advil and Robitussin and went back to bed. I got up for good at about 8:20 AM. So that’s about 14 hours of sleep, minus the one interruption. Not bad.
I feel much better today. I’ve got a few minutes yet before I have to leave to get to church on time so I figured I’d tell you about the craziness. Today I have to type a 5-8 page essay for my Buddhism class. It’s one of two take-home finals that I’ve got. This one is due Monday morning. The other is due on Friday sometime. My only other exam is on Tuesday, so I’m hoping to finish up all my exam stuff by Wednesday. That way I can spend Thursday and Friday packing up my storage locker and packing my bags for Europe.
