I Am The One-Armed Man

So it’s been a long time since I’ve updated. That’s because it feels like my arm is about to fall off. Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad. But it is still pretty sore.

I have arrived in Florida! I’m back in good old Tallahassee. Monday was basically a travel day. I checked into Rogers Hall Room 423 without any trouble. The only bad thing about Monday happened at night. I didn’t have time to go to my storage locker before it closed for the day, so I didn’t have anything except for what I packed from Connecticut. Most importantly, I didn’t have any sheets or towels. Combined with the fact that every time I turned over onto my shoulder I thought I was going to die, it made for a very long, uncomfortable night.

Tuesday was my first day of giving surveys. I only was apart of that for an hour before Tasha and I went food shopping for the cookout that was that evening. Skipping ahead to the cookout, a lot of people showed up, as always. My thinking is if you have to pay for a dinner the week before classes start you’re a sucker. There’s so much free food that you should put on the Freshman 15 in that week alone. Anyway, this cookout was a lot better than the one last year. We had much better and much more meaningful conversations this time around. For whatever reason, probably because it’s what we’ve been praying for, it seems like there are many more freshmen who are really interested in the Navs this fall.

Wednesday was more surveys and more follow up on surveys. I have to admit that I’m not very good at follow up. It scares the pants off me, and no one wants to see that.

Thursday was the first Nav Night of the semester. I’ve never had to make and receive more phone calls than I did on Thursday. I think I might have talked to every Navigator who was in Tallahassee at least once. Dave had a lot of constructive advice for me, of which I followed all but one bit: I still talk too fast. But I have to say that I was impressed with the way things came together. We had three solid testimonies, a good skit, clutch praise leading from Rob (first time he ever led the singing while playing guitar), and a solid word from Dave. We had a lot of first-timers show up. It was very encouraging to see all our efforts pay off.

So today the Nav gang went to St. George Island for the day. I stayed home because my shoulder and because I want to get some unpacking done. Andy helped me bring some of my stuff up to my room on Thursday, so I’ve got plenty to do.
