Fall Conference 2004

Quote of the Day: “I had to ask myself, ‘Am I willing to love these people even if they never want to talk about something spiritual?’” — Andy Farina at the Navigator Fall Gathering on his commitment to his non-Christian friends

So I went to the Fall Conference this past Saturday. It was pretty awesome. I’m starting to think that I enjoy seeing all the Navs from other campuses more than anything else though, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. One thing that was really cool was that there were guys, one from UF and one from USF, that weren’t believers, but they had been asked to speak at the conference. Well, they had been asked to be interviewed in front of everyone by their respective campus minister. These were guys that had been friends with Navs for a while now, so they knew basically what they were doing. But I’m telling you it was so cool so hear things from their perspective. Things like the differences between Navs who want to share Jesus and “crazy” evangelists they see in the Union. It was easily the most encouraging part of the day.

So back to FSU. So remember last week when I had three tests and a quiz? Well, the class I had the quiz in is giving another quiz this week and then a test next week. ARGH! It’ll never end.

The dream has died. The Dolphins won 31-10 over the Rams this Sunday. I was hoping for a winless season, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. FSU won barely over Wake. UF lost to Mississippi State, and thus the entire coaching staff was fired today. But what’s weird is that staff has to work for the rest of the season anyway. Wow, I wonder how motivated they’ll be? In other sports news, I guess I didn’t officially make a World Series pick, since the Yanks didn’t make it (I had said the Cards would top the Yanks in six). I won’t make a pick, since it seems stupid two games into the series, but I am rooting for the Sox.

One thing that was encouraging from last Thursday’s Nav Night that I don’t think I’ve mentioned was finding out that we have three people who have committed to being on the A-Team and a few people who have said maybe. I’m pumped. At least someone will be on it. That takes a lot of the pressure off.

I think before I start reading for the rest of the day I’m going to play some piano. This Thursday is another Nav worship night and I need to practice.
