Thanksgiving In Lakeland

So today I write to you from lovely Lakeland, Florida, where I am spending my Thanksgiving holiday. Rather than make the 20 hour drive home to Connecticut I caught a ride with Jessi Lucas who graciously drove me to the home of my aunt and uncle and two cousins (those last two don’t actually live here, but they’re home for the holiday). We had a great turkey dinner yesterday afternoon. My aunt made an incredible pumpkin cheesecake for dessert too. It was a lot of fun. I’ve easily had the best two meals of the semester this week.

Speaking of which, I didn’t talk about that yet. On Tuesday the girls of the 210 house (six crazy ladies who love Jesus all living in one home, ahhh!) opened up their doors to everyone for a pot luck dinner. I thought I’d see maybe 20-30 people show up, but there was a crowd approaching 60 people in that house! And it felt like family. Almost everyone there was involved in Navs, the ones who weren’t were friends still, and it just felt like a family gathering. I felt very much at home that night. I don’t mean in that house, but at home in Tallahassee and just that general feeling that you get when you know you’re where you belong and where you’re loved.

Anyway, back to Lakeland. I’ve been invited here for Thanksgiving the last two years and I’ve turned them down to go elsewhere. Next year I’ll probably be in Missouri visiting my grandma, thus completely the perfectly symmetric Thanksgiving circuit. My grandma on my Dad’s side (freshmen year), then an aunt and uncle on my Mom’s side (sophomore year), then an aunt and uncle on my Dad’s side (junior year), and finally my grandma on my Mom’s side (senior year). That’s the kind of thing that makes you say, “Gee wiz,” or something ‘Leave It to Beaver’-esque.

But anyway, I now am going to spend much of today reading the millions of pages that need to be read for my Christian Apologists class. Tonight I’m going out to Hooters with my cousin and some of his friends. Tomorrow I might be shopping for a suit, depending on if my aunt and I have got the guts to face the annual shopping craze. Then probably more reading.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and that your break is relaxing. Huzzah for turkey sandwiches!

You Are the Cranberry Sauce

A little sweet, a little sour - you’ve got the flava! Though, you do tend to squish in people’s mouths…
