First Impressions of Spring 2005

Wow my Spanish class is hard. And it’s not hard because the material is out of my grasp, though it does seem to be more difficult this semester. No, it’s because my teacher is nuts. She’s really loud. Like, earth foundation shaking loud. It makes it hard to want to listen. And she makes all of the homework required instead of just for practice. It’s not graded but if you don’t do it and you’re not going over it in class you get no participation points for the day. So lame. It’s a really small class with only about 15 people in all. That’s good and bad. I don’t know. I think she’s better than taking Spanish from a Chinese guy, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

Other classes are really cool. I ended up not getting into either the Holocaust or the insurance class. I’m taking a class called Organizational Behavior, which is a fancy way of saying they’re going to talk about human resources. Christian Tradition has been dry so far, but that’s just because she’s introducing the religion as though no one in the class has ever heard of it. That’s probably a smart thing to do, but it’s pretty boring. Religion & Science is really good so far, but we haven’t talked about anything all that controversial yet. So when my professor starts teaching me things that make my head explode I’ll revise my opinion. Right now he’s on my good side because we got out 20 minutes early yesterday.

The Pohl-isse (a.k.a. Alissee Pohl) mailed my roommate Scott and I a package from Colorado. The girl gave us food, music and guns (cinnamon raisin bread, a mix CD, and water guns). I’d like to take this time to clarify in writing that Alisse is awesome. That is all.

I haven’t said a word about 24 yet, have I? Oh man! Kiefer Sutherland is too good at what he does. The first four hours have been really good. But the fact that they aired on successive nights was a bit much. By the fourth hour I was getting a little sick of it (too much plot exposition, not enough confrontation). I’m going to get Scott into it by renting the first three seasons. I’ll get him addicted soon enough.

I never made first-round NFL playoff predictions. It’s a good thing too, because I’d be sitting at a 1-3 mark right now. It’s really tough to call an upset in this round. I heard some stat on SportsCenter that since 1990 (I think) only 11 teams with the bye have lost in the second round. Maybe it wasn’t 1990, that seems ridiculous, but whatever it was it wasn’t too many teams. So when everyone says that the Colts and the Vikings are going to win this weekend I really can’t buy into it. I’m picking all the home teams except the Patriots (gasp!). No Ty Law, and Manning is much better and much more confident than in the week 1 loss. Pitt, Philly, and Atlanta will all win. This round and next round will be awesome.

Random bit of news to pass along. The Navs were allocated more than $500 by Student Allocations for this semester. That’s not too shabby! Must have been my presentation at the financial hearing.

Can’t wait for the long weekend. Most of my friends are going on the Nav ski trip. Not me, though that really shouldn’t shock anyone. I nice quiet weekend at home. Yeah, right.
