A Lesson In Humility

I know I’ve been updating like crazy lately with quick posts lately but I have got to tell you about the events of this morning. Good contrast. Learned a lesson in humility. That kind of thing.

So this morning at 9:05 my Spanish class had a test on weather expressions and tu commands. I get to class early to cram a few more words into my head and the girl sitting next to me (who previously learned I was a religion major) asks me who I had for Old Testament. Well, I tell her all about Dr. Lyons and how he still is my favorite professor and that he’s a great guy outside the classroom and on and on. I then tell her that he no longer teaches here but teaches at TCC. But get this. The next thing she says is, “I bet he slept with a student. Why else would he leave here for TCC?”

I ask you: have you ever encountered someone so stupid?! I mean honestly. I just got through telling her that I’m his biggest fan, so obviously I like the guy. Then she insults the man’s fidelity. Brainless. Unheard of thoughtlessness. I haven’t felt that kind of outrage towards someone in a long time. I did manage to stuff in down and not act on it fortunately, but inside I was hot.

Of course God has a way of knowing what we’re feeling, and if He doesn’t much care for it He does an uncanny ability of letting you know. If you read last night’s post you’ll see that I was swamped with a lot of work. I managed to do alright on my paper and I was reasonably prepared for my Spanish test but both could have been better.

My Spanish professor walks into the classroom and tells us that do to some technical issues we won’t be having the test today, that it’s postponed until tomorrow. Amazing. What grace! I’ve now got extra time to fix up my paper and an extra day to study for my test.

Grace. Yeah, about that. I probably should be giving some to this girl who was sitting next to me. Odds are she didn’t say what she said maliciously. She was probably just trying to be funny and she didn’t think about whether or not I’d not like the joke. Consider me humbled in the sight of the Lord.

Now it’s time to get back to work. This paper isn’t going to fix itself you know.
