So the Pats didn’t quite destroy the Eagles like I thought they would but they got the win. That means I personally went 5-4 in the postseason, narrowly avoiding my first set of pro postseason predictions under .500. But this destroys the pattern that had developed since Super Bowl XXXI. That was a bad game (Packers vs Patriots), the following year (Packers vs Broncos) was a good game. It had gone like that for eight seasons. We were due for a dud, but Philly put up a good fight. Tied after one, tied at the half, tied after three. It was much more competitive than I thought it would be.
The New England/Boston area is officially Titletown. That’s sad.
I liked most of the commercials, although there was no one single amazing ad. The only one I straight-up didn’t like was the godaddy.com commercial with the girl’s top falling off. And unfortunately the Navs just got a domain from them last week, so we’re supporting them. Oh well, we couldn’t have known. Here are my Top 5:
- Frito-Lay: MC Hammer gets thrown back
- Fedex Kinkos: Top 10 Super Bowl ad tips
- Emerald Nuts: Dad tells his daughter that if she eats a nut all unicorns will disappear
- Diet Pepsi: P. Diddy and his new ride
- Network ad for 24: The voice-over guy butting in as people buy fruit and underwear at Wal-mart
How’s this for awesome. Terrell Owens, a guy who I’ve come to loathe for his antics both on and off the field, a guy who had been injured for the last few weeks and who hadn’t been cleared to play by his doctors (but played anyway), had this to say after losing the Super Bowl.
“Nobody knew but me. Dr. [Mark] Myerson, I give him all the respect in the world. You guys believed what he said that I couldn’t play. A lot of people in the world didn’t believe I could play. It goes to show you. The power of prayer and the power of faith will take you all the way. Nothing is impossible if you got God on your side.”
My Bible study was just talking about this. We may be willing to give God glory in victory, but do we do so in defeat? Now I know it was a victory that he was able to play, but the fact he was willing to say this after losing the biggest game of his life still says something.
And with that the football season is over. August can’t come soon enough. ![]()
I leave you with a flash of my dorkier side. If you’re into HTML you might like this.

Your dominant hues are cyan and green. Although you definately strive to be logical you care about people and know there’s a time and place for thinking emotionally. Your head rules most things but your heart rules others, and getting them to meet in the middle takes a lot of your energy some days.Your saturation level is higher than average - You know what you want, but sometimes know not to tell everyone. You value accomplishments and know you can get the job done, so don’t be afraid to run out and make things happen.Your outlook on life can be bright or dark, depending on the situation. You are flexible and see things objectively. |
