More University Housing Woes

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything, but there hasn’t been too much to report. I do have one outrage to pass along. Remember university housing? Yeah, they’re idiots. Freshman year they made me attend a second orientation (costing me $1300 in travel fees) just to sign a paper. Sophomore year I tried to live with three other guys in the same Salley Hall; the other three were put in Kellum, I was put in Deviney and it took a total of eight separate switches to get two of us in the same room in Salley. Junior year I tried to live with three other guys in the same McCollum Hall room; two of us got in (including me), one got put in Smith, and one didn’t make it on campus at all. As a result Scott and I moved over to Rogers Hall. This year I’m thinking that with my senior priority number nothing can stop me. All three of my potential roommates are coming from on campus unlike the year before. We’re all trying to get into an upperclassmen dorm (McCollum) which is easier than getting four people into a freshmen dorm. So what could go wrong?

Well, despite my high priority number I did not get assigned a room. Worse yet, I was not put on any waiting list. What? Well because Rogers Hall is technically a grad student dorm and that’s where I’m applying from. the computers assumed that I was a grad student and thus deleted my application Yeah. So I went into housing and I went straight to the top. I was demanding action from the Associate Director of Housing. And did that work? Actually, yeah, it did. He’s personally taking care of the situation. I’ll officially be in McCollum as of next week. And he’s going to do what he can to get me and my three roommates in the same room (only Aaron made it into McCollum, Kyle and Jason got put in Kellum). So out of all four years this is the best bad situation so far. But let’s not look past the fact that this is the fourth year housing has screwed up.

Now, on to some better news. Last Saturday I went to Tampa for a Nav conference. The speaker was Jerry Bridges, long time Navigator and author. He gave a really good talk on identity in Christ and an awesome workshop on grace. I left for Tampa on Saturday morning (5 AM) and got back Saturday night (midnight). I was traveling in Dave Wirgau’s monster van, and on the way back he talked to us about angelic and demonic forces. He was essentially leading a Bible study without a Bible in hand (all the verses from memory) while driving. So awesome and easily the best “preaching” I’ve heard all year.

So I don’t think I’ve mentioned 24 for quite a while. Air Force One got shot down. The one thing I like about this season is that CTU is really losing. Season one they didn’t really lose at all, season two a nuke was blown up but in a desert (and not in L.A. as was desired), and season three the virus was contain with only one outbreak. But this year the Secretary of State was kidnapped and nearly murdered, a nuclear reactor was melted down, Air Force One was shot down, and from the preview for it looks like they’ve got a nuke that they’re going to try to set off somewhere. I do think it’s stupid that the president survived the plane crash. I think it’s even more stupid that they brought on his son for one episode only to have him dead in the wreck (granted this would have been fine had the president died).

So I’m looking at my last post and it was my birthday rant. I would like to report that I successfully stayed dry… that day. Well, here’s the deal. I never got thrown into a fountain. But this past Thursday was an After Navs event, and the event was a water balloon fight on Landis Green. Some people (not me) got on top of the Bellamy building and started to thrown balloons from there. The police came by and stopped them. When the balloons ran out people began to fill up the coolers that the balloons had been transported in with water from Landis fountain. This is the part where I got wet. I got drenched by a few people. The highlight of the evening was throwing Dave Wirgau into the fountain.

Next week starts finals for me. The official finals week isn’t until the following week but I’ve got three finals this coming week. Organizational Behavior is this Monday and Wednesday. I have a Spanish oral on Tuesday. And my Christian Tradition final is Friday. Then two more the following week (written in Spanish and Religion & Science).

Tomorrow’s big news is that there will be a meeting of the new worship team. Sort of. It’s the people who are interested in being apart of the team next fall. I’m still not really sure what I’m going to say, hopefully it’ll be good.
