Brain Check-up

Since a year ago I myself was an international traveler keeping a blog for the rest of the world to hear of my exploits I am this year promoting the blog of a friend who is doing the same. My friend Tiffany is in Tokyo right now and is writing all about it (a link to her page will remain on the navigation to the left).

I had a checkup with my neurologist today. The old brain is still there and it appears to be working as well as it was the last time it was inspected. I do have to get an EEG next Monday though. And to prepare for that I have to stay up all night so I’ll be able to sleep during the test. I’m thinking a movie marathon with an undetermined theme. As usual I needed to get a blood test to check my medication levels and I have to tell you I have never had a nurse do such a poor job with the needle. I needed to give to vials (one for the general med levels, one to check out my liver). She took the first alright, but as she leaded to pick up the second vial she wiggled the needle. This not only hurt but she “lost” the vein. So she had to find it again which was not a painless process by any means. My arm is going to turn a rotten banana color in a day or so.

I know I’m dwelling on this checkup but there is one more cool thing to say about it. This was my first appointment with my new doctor (they finally kicked me out of the children’s wing; guess the beard was a giveaway). I’m making small talk and I tell him that I’m a religion major and at some point I make the comment that it’s sort of an unusual major. He then tells me that he was an anthropology major with a focus on religion. He starts talking to me about his thesis on cockfighting in the Philippines, all the while I’m totally struck dumb. First I’m thinking, “This is so cool, my doctor and I have similar interests.” Then I’m thinking, “Holy crap, my doctor isn’t a doctor!” All those degrees on the wall must have been fakes. So I could be dead in a week or two. Just want to give you all some warning.

So I realize that the majority of my readers (that probably being three out of the five of you) don’t go to FSU and that my last post must have seemed boring. Worse yet, you could put the names to faces. Well thanks to Tiffany I have a photo from the Navs’ senior night to pass along. The lighting is a little lame but I hope this clears things up a bit.
