The Miami Heat Part of the Program

First and foremost, Happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers, especially mine.

Anyone watching the NBA playoffs? I am, and being a big Miami Heat fan I have to say that I’m getting pretty excited. They’ve won five straight playoff games. They’ve never done that before. In fact they’ve never won more than eight playoff games in any one single postseason (1997). They have scored 100+ points in all five playoff games. Before this postseason they had only scored 100+ points in four of the 64 playoff games they’ve been apart of (they were 3-1 in such games).

Think those are some impressive numbers? Here are some more interesting facts about the Heat. Today they began their 15th playoff series in team history. All but two of them have either been sweeps (sweeping a best-of-five in 2000, sweeping a best-of-seven in 2005, and being swept in a best-of-five in 1992, 1996, and 2001) or have gone the distance (four times in best-of-five series: winning in 1997, losing in 1994, 1998, and 1999; three times in best-of-seven series: winning in 1997 and 2004, losing in 2000). The only other two (completed) series? They lost 4-1 to the Bulls in 1997 and they lost 4-2 to the Pacers last season. So yeah, 26-38 overall in their postseason history. Not great, but that’ll improve next year. I’m not too scared of the Wizards. It’s the next round I’m worried about. Miami has not played well against either Indiana or Detroit. It’ll be fun to see what happens.

So tonight according to my doctor’s wishes I will be staying up all night. I have an EEG in the morning and I need to sleep during part of it so they want me sleepy. Right now I’m recording the Simpsons and Family Guy to help keep me awake later. Plus I rented the remake of the Manchurian Candidate with Denzel (so hot right now) so it’s going to be a regular hullabaloo at my house tonight.
