A Walk Through Old Wethersfield

Today I walked in a 10 km walk to benefit cystic fibrosis research. It’s something my church does every May because in our congregation there’s a little girl named Emily who has CF. (I can’t imagine some of the thoughts that must come to her mind everyday.) So at 8:30 this morning I got to church, we had a quick service, and we headed over to one of the schools in Wethersfield. It was kind of a lousy day to be walking. There was light rain all morning, with the sun only peaking out at the very end of the walk. We walked through Old Wethersfield, a part of town that has houses more than 250 years old. I have to say out of all the Connecticut towns I’ve spent any time in I like Old Wethersfield the best. There’s history, but it’s not obnoxious history. I feel like a lot of towns up here are trying to show you just how historical they are, whereas this town just is historical and leaves it at that. But anyway, I think a lot of money was raised and it was a fun way to spend the morning. Afterwards we all went to the Barse’s home for a cookout, where I spent the better part of the afternoon as an umpire for the kids’ home run derby. Fun times.

I have to say, I came home from that walk pretty beat. I had planned to get in touch with some people but after being on my feet all day I was whipped. I took a long nap in the afternoon and wasted yet another opportunity to see people. I’m still losing that battle.

My EEG results: normal. As was pointed out by the ever tactful Allen Lill this does not necessarily mean that my brain is normal, simply that it isn’t falling apart. But all the same I’m happy there aren’t any new problems to have to worry about.

Only a little more than a week to go until I’m off to Colorado Springs. I still haven’t been told what my job will be once I get there but I assume they’ll let me know this week (I need to know what kinds of work clothes to pack). So this is my last week to do better in all areas that need to be done better. Here’s hoping I make it through the week alive.
