Better Luck Next Year

FSU isn’t getting anyone from EDGE Corps.

For those not familiar with EDGE, basically it’s a Navigator program that’s 1 year long (with an option for a second year) where you’re placed on a college campus with your purpose being to mentor student believers and reach the lost on the campus. The plan was that we were going to be getting two girls for this coming year. A full EDGE team is two guys and two girls, so we were already getting only half a team. But we were still excited and encouraged (I say “we” because I assume the rest of the FSU Navs share my feelings about EDGEers). If you look down to my last post you’ll see a little something about a talk I had with Dave Wirgau on Monday afternoon. As of that point we were all systems go to be getting these women for our campus. That evening and the next day things fell apart. I’m not going to go into the details in such a public forum, but the end result is that one of the girls will be working at the Glen this year and the other will be at Clemson.

I can say that this is the best move for both of these women to be making. But at the same time I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me. I was really getting excited about them coming. Finally, some EDGEers at FSU. We had had Joel Helms and his team some time ago, but there had been none since I had been a student. I can’t tell you how crushed I am, but at the same time I know that there’s great purpose behind what is happening. I found all this out initially from an EDGE recruiter (that was an awkward experience - she asked me who all was on staff at FSU, I said the Wirgaus and two EDGEers, she told me we weren’t getting EDGEers). She tends to think that because of these events FSU will get a full EDGE team for the 2006-07 school year, which will be awesome. All I ask is that you pray for the two girls; they’ve been through a lot this past week. Carrie will be at the Glen and Courtney will be at Clemson.

And as if that’s not been enough to occupy my mind I came to find out today that my credit card was stolen! Sort of. I was at the Glen bookstore buying some books (great sale today: 40% off). I give them my card and it doesn’t work. It’s a debit card and I know there’s money in the account so I was a little confused. They call in and they tell me my card has been reported stolen. They take my card and cut it up. What’s going on?! I didn’t report it stolen, so who did? I call my credit union and evidently someone hacked into Visa and stole 300 credit card numbers, mine being one of them. As soon as that happened they cancelled my card. I should be getting a card sent within 7-10 days. That is, it’ll be in Florida by then. After that it’ll be forwarded to Connecticut, and when my parents receive it they’ll mail it to Colorado. So I’ll get it in a few weeks. But seriously, out of all the millions of Visa cards in the world, mine is one of the 300 stolen?! Why is it that when I finally beat the odds it’s for something bad?

Can’t really say I’ve got a whole lot of good news to pass along. Sorry. I’ll see what I can do tomorrow.
