The Interview

Leading Off - I am among the employed! You are reading the words of the newest employee of Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs. Look out paper, you’re about to get pushed!

The Interview - I had the interview on Tuesday. First, I have to comment on my suit. Every time I wear a suit I feel like I’m wearing a Halloween costume. It’s just not me and I feel like it’s painfully obvious to whoever sees me. But anyway, my interview was at 9 AM, bright and early. It was by far the most low-key interview I’ve had throughout this whole job search process. It went a little something like this:

1) He told me what the DOEA was about
2) He asked me to describe myself
3) We toured the office
4) He offered me a job

I wish they’d all been that easy, even if they didn’t all end with a job offer. He gave me until Thursday to make a decision. I thought it over on Wednesday, but there really wasn’t much to consider. I need a job, plain and simple. My new boss will be out on leave until Wednesday, so when he gets back we’re going to talk about start date and finalize a starting wage.

Living Situation - I can’t move into house I was talking about in the last post until I find two other people to share it with, so says the landlady. I have found one, though we have yet to make contact with each other (confirmed his interest through his sister). Thankfully I won’t be starting work for a few days, so hopefully this will get sorted out before then.

Tag, You’re It! - One thing about moving that’s a pain is that you can spend an entire day on a seemingly simple task. Most of yesterday was spent getting a Florida license plate. I wish I could have waited until I had a permanent address but my temporary tag is going to expire on Sunday. But before I could get my new one I had to switch my insurance agent from Connecticut to Florida, which was a long song-and-dance since their computers were on the fritz. Not only was it time-consuming, it was also expensive. It cost me almost $200 just to get a plate, and it’s going to cost a lot more for car insurance down here than it does up north!

The rest - Today is a pretty empty day. I’ve got a couple of small things to do, but for the most part the things that needed to get done have gotten done. I may end up helping my campus minister Dave repaint his duplex in anticipation of the EDGE girls who will be living in it. With temperatures in the high 90s I can’t wait!
