Leading Off - I may have a job, but I’m still not working yet. I have not received a call from my boss regarding my start date. And I’ve still not found a third roommate. So I’m in limbo at the moment. It’s a lot less stressful than the limbo I was in up in Connecticut; at least I have a job and a place to stay. But still, it would be nice to make some forward progress.
The Laborers are Two - The one nice thing about not working is that I’ve been able to spend time with the two EDGErs who have raised the necessary funds to come to campus. As I type this in Strozier library I’m sitting next to Alyssa and across from Luke. Luke has a blog that you should check out: http://lukeskeen.blogspot.com. I’ve spent the last few days getting to know them, moving them into the Projectz, and praying with them for the campus. At last update, both John and Stephanie have raised about 40% of their funding. They need 75% in order to report. Please be praying for them and, if so led, give to their fund raising efforts.
A Dream Come True - Over the past couple of days I have been living with the Sweet Joe Chandler in Villa Special. There’s really not that much more to say on the subject. It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do.
So It Begins - This Saturday is when the freshmen, and everyone else living in residence halls, start to move back on campus. I am very excited this year, more so than I’ve been in years. I haven’t been able to put my finger on the exact reason. Maybe it’s because I feel more purposeful this year, having made the decision to stay here for this reason. As I mentioned in my State of the Andrew Address I’ll be ministering in Dorman Hall this year. What I didn’t mention (because I didn’t find out until this week) was that Jacob, my partner in ministry, will be transferring to Loyola after this semester. When I first found out I was pretty crushed, but it has given me a new sense of urgency and focus that wasn’t there before. I am still believing God for big things this year, and I don’t see any reason why that should be less true just because Jacob will be here for four months rather than eight.
The rest - The anticipation is killing me. Work, ministry, house. All close to starting, but they’re all still waiting in the wings. A week from now I’ll likely be dying for a break from all the activity. Be praying for the FSU Navigator ministry over the next few weeks. The first couple of weeks of the fall semester are the most critical in the life of any college freshman. They’ll make decisions about who they’re going to hang out with and what they’re going to give their time to for the rest of that year, sometimes for the rest of their college careers. The Gospel needs to get to them before anything else has a chance to compete.
