Leading Off – I’d wish you a happy Halloween, but I’ve decided that I don’t really like this holiday anymore. Too much sketchy stuff happens on this night, witchcraft and the like, that’s diametrically opposed to my beliefs for me to really be on board with Halloween. That, and I won’t even be around Tallahassee to “celebrate” this year.
Elder Affairs – This afternoon I’ll be leaving on my first business trip, with this job or with any other job, to go to Tampa for a SHINE leadership meeting. Tomorrow I actually get to say a few things in front of everyone. Granted I’ll be up front for all of about twenty minutes, but it makes me feel like I’m going for a reason rather than just because I can. I’m trying to decide whether I’m excited about this trip or if I’m dreading it. It certainly will be a nice change of pace from data entry, but I do enjoy coming home to my own house and sleeping in my own bed. I guess it’ll be nice to have the company pay for everything for a couple of days. Money has been a little tighter than usual lately so this trip is a blessing in that regard.

Leading Off – It’s been a long, strange week. As I sit here and type in the union computer lab, where my old student I.D. still gets me in, I find it hard to believe that only a week ago I was down at the Nav fall conference. And I suppose before I go any further I should visit those events.
Nav Fall Conference – This idea didn’t make it into my head until two days ago while at the alumni team meeting, but now that it’s there I can’t shake it. Why did I sign up for the fall conference? I did it out of habit, I think. I didn’t go expecting anything or with any type of intention or plan. I went because I always go to Nav events. I don’t know if I like that. Something to consider in the future.

Cory Lidle – I need to get my two cents in about this terrible accident. I really haven’t seen much of the TV coverage about what happened or how it happened. I only know the basics: a Yankees pitcher and one other man were flying along the East River, for some reason got off course and crashed into a Manhattan building. It’s unbelievable really, and that’s all I keep hearing from people who are close to the story. How could this have happened?
I would never have called myself a Cory Lidle fan. I’ve never been a fan for any of the seven teams he played for in the nine years he was in the majors. In all that time I’m not even sure he was even on one of my fantasy teams. But there’s just something strange about this story. I can’t put my finger on it, but I really care about it. I’ve been looking up various different writers on news sites and sports sites. So far the best one by far is by Alan Schwarz on ESPN.com.

Leading Off – I feel like this past week has been run-of-the-mill, which is interesting since I hadn’t had a run-of-the-mill week since coming back to Florida. And that would make the aforementioned week more out of the ordinary than anything else, right? I don’t know.
Living Situation – Darren has officially moved out of what has come to be called Château Special. (Why does my house deserve the moniker “Château”? Well, it does have two bathrooms after all.) So now it’s just me and Scott. Whatever you want to call what I just went through, you can now call it over.

Leading Off – I feel like such a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It looks like my living situation is beginning to turn around. The house is clean and, what’s more, I expect it to be clean when I return home. It’s the little things in life that make me happy.
Living Situation – Jacob and Lorenzo have officially moved out of my house. Jacob moved out because he couldn’t make rent (to be fair, he owed rent and half the security deposit, but anywhere else wouldn’t have let him move in to begin with had he not fronted the entire security deposit). Lorenzo moved out because, well, he never lived there. If you haven’t been reading here lately you’d not know that Jacob had been letting Lorenzo crash on one of our couches since Labor Day. So when Jacob left it also meant Lorenzo was no longer our guest. I dropped them both off at a motel yesterday afternoon. They’ll be back once more to pick up a couple of things later this week and that’ll be the end of it.
