Leading Off - Today starts one of the best weeks of the year. Think about it. You’re only at work for three days. If you’re still in school you may only have two days of school. Then you sit around and eat all weekend, watch football or your favorite movies, and catch up with family. Not too shabby. Sadly, I’m still on the front side of those three days of work.
Introducing McKenzie Grace Pohl - This past Saturday (I think it was Saturday) my old friend Alisse Pohl gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Congratulations Alisse!
Dream Sequence - Sometimes I think it’s funny how God works. On Friday night after alumni team I was sitting around in Camp Special listen to people describe strange dreams they’ve had. They debated over what they could mean, if anything, and the whole concept of dreams in general. Unfortunately, not only do I not sleep all that well but I also don’t hardly ever remember my dreams.
Then came Saturday night. I had spent all day Saturday doing next to nothing. It was a much needed Sabbath after a very long week. I even got to bed early - well, early for the weekend - at around 10 PM. I preceded to have one of the strangest dreams I’ve had in a very long time. I wish I had written it down right when I woke up because it has slipped away a little bit, but I managed to hang on to quite a bit.
So in this dream this girl from my past and I are having a baby (she may still be a reader of my blog, so I’ll forgo revealing who it is). For those of you who think you know my past, it’s none of the people you’d be most likely to guess first. Anyway, so we have this kid. I don’t know the gender. And I guess this girl was out somewhere and I was supposed to be watching the baby but for some reason I wasn’t. I come back into the room where the baby was and find that it’s fallen from its crib and has died. Yeah, I know, really morbid! While I did start to panic a little, I never had the overwhelming emotional response that would accompany that event if it were to happen to me in real life. When I had to confront the girl about what happened I can clearly remember lying about it in some way. I think she asked if I had been watching the kid and I think I said yes, that the baby had just died in its sleep.
That was it. I woke up after that. I had a dream about my baby dying! I don’t know much about dreams but that can’t be a good thing. I know God speaks to you in dreams but I haven’t a clue what He’s saying if He’s trying to tell me something through this one. Maybe it was something I ate. It’s like Scrooge says: “You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of the grave about you, whatever you are!” Then again, he was wrong about that, wasn’t he?
Michigan vs Ohio State - It’s been a long time since I last sat down to watch an entire football game that didn’t include either the Dolphins or the Seminole or was not a championship game of some sort. But this Saturday I watched the entire Michigan vs Ohio State game. What a great game! Now, I am one of the ones who says there should not be a rematch. I am never in favor of a rematch of a regular season college football game unless it is in a conference championship game. I was against the 2004 Orange Bowl rematch of FSU and Miami and I’d be against a Michigan and Ohio State rematch this year. That being said, there are other scenarios that I would be less pleased with, such as if USC beats Notre Dame and then somehow beats Ohio State to win the national championship. I guess what I’m hoping for is Ohio State to be matched against Notre Dame more than anything else. We’ll have to wait and see what the BCS cooks up.
NBA: 10 Games In - Okay, so I’m not a big NBA fan this year because the Heat will be lucky to win more games than they lose, but I would like to point this out. Keep in mind we’re about a month into the regular season. If the playoffs started today, last year’s finalists - Miami and Dallas - would each be the 8th seed in the respective conferences. Who could have seen that coming?
Wardrobe Malfunction- Today was the first day of the new dress code at work. Well, it’s actually the old dress code; they just stopped allowing summer attire as of last Friday. So from now on I have to wear a tie to work Monday through Thursday. I’m not as upset about the wearing part as I am about the buying part. The fact is that I don’t have too many ties, or too many shirts to tie them from for that matter. Just when I think my startup costs have come to an end I get hit with another mandatory bill. At least it’s almost Christmas shopping season. I imagine men’s wear will go on sale across the board for the next month.
The rest - Tonight is the 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at 210. If you’ve been invited and haven’t made up your mind I encourage you to stop in and grab a bite. It’s always a good time. And if you haven’t been invited but you know me, consider yourself invited! Let me know if you want to come and I’ll give you the scoop. It’ll be a fun time had by all.
