Predicting Jack

I just realized that three out of the first five posts in my new blog will be about Jack Bauer (one last week, this one and the one I intend to write tomorrow). I’m not turning this into a 24 blog; it’s just that time of year.

Tonight is the two-hour season finale. I wanted to go on record as to what I think will happen tonight. This season I’ve been pretty accurate when it come to making predictions, but I’ve yet to make any in writing. So here they are.

Official Predictions:

  • Jack Bauer will not be killed. This includes fake deaths.
  • Bill Buchanan will be killed. This is sad, as he’s without a doubt the best character of the CTU bunch and probably the best character to be added after the third season.
  • Chloe will not be killed, despite the teaser that would have us believe she’s in danger. She will live to pout her way through another season.
  • Phillip Bauer will not be killed. Jack will probably try to kill him but will somehow be thwarted. He will escape to China.
  • Josh Bauer will not be rescued. He will be kidnapped by Phillip Bauer and taken to China. His rescue will be the premise for Season 7.
  • Marilyn Bauer will go nuts.
  • Cheng Zhi will be killed.
  • No one else in CTU or the White House will be killed today. I was hoping Morris would have a chance to redeem himself today with an honorable death, but it looks like we’ll have to wait. I should have known; they’re trying to make Morris/Chloe the new Tony/Michelle.
  • The circuit board will be retrieved. My thinking here is that it will be destroyed with little way to prove its destruction. Russian President Yuri Suvarov won’t believe American Vice President Daniels since he tried to trick the Russians earlier with false data claiming the chip had already been destroyed.
  • The conflict with the Russians will escalate. This will be the gut-wrenching aspect to end the season. The U.S. government will have let a man kidnap a child with the hope of staving off a war. But since they can’t prove that the chip was destroyed the Russians will attack the American forces in Central Asia.
  • Technically speaking, Jack is under arrest. I predict he won’t be in custody at 6 AM for one reason or another.

Unofficial Predictions:

  • Karen Hayes might not be out of hot water now that the scape goat, her husband Bill Buchanan, is dead. She may have to resign as White House National Security Advisor.
  • Marilyn Bauer, struck with grief over her son’s kidnapping, may commit suicide.
  • Jack Bauer may kill as many as ten people over the next two hours. I imagine many of them will be Secret Service, since that’s probably who has Josh right now.
  • If Jack is a fugitive at the end of the day, Mike Doyle may be hunting him down next season.

I think I’ve covered all the loose ends. As I alluded to at the top of this post, tomorrow I will talk about my reactions to the season finale and see just how many of my predictions were accurate. I’ll also give you my reflections on the season as a whole.
