I need to tell this story from the beginning. It all started in Colorado (cue the harp and blurry flashback fade).
I was out at iNFO training listening to another presentation. This one was about newsletters. Molly, the presenter, made a brief comment about getting a CampusNavs email address to include in our letters. It would look professional and could be setup to forward all messages to our actual email accounts. Being the computer geek that I am I took note of this little factoid and made sure to get an account when I got home.
Now flash forward a couple of days. I was on Facebook wasting my time when it occurred to me that the Navigators just might have a Facebook network I could join with my new email address. So I browsed the list of work networks and, sure enough, there listed was a network for the Navigators. So I entered my email address and clicked Join Work Network. But instead of adding the network I get a message on my screen saying my email address does not correspond to any existing work network.
Huh? So the little wheels in my head start spinning and I came to the conclusion that the Navigators network must only recognize emails that end in @navigators.org. Mine ends in @campusnavs.org. So I blast Facebook a message informing them of my discovery and wait for a reply. This is what I got back yesterday afternoon:
Hi Andrew,
The Navigators network we currently support is a network for a different organization than yours. We have created a new network for The Navigators, and have included both the navigators.org domain and the campusnavs.org domain. I’ve also added this network to your account. Once you log in, you should be able to see these changes.
We encourage you to let your friends know about this new network. You can do this from the Invite page (http://www.facebook.com/invite
.php). Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for contacting Facebook,

That’s right, readers. Because of me there is now a Facebook network for the Navigators. Like most great pioneers my contribution to history was totally unintentional. There isn’t a network page yet because not enough people have joined. But I’m confident that as time goes on our numbers will grow. If you’re on staff with Navs, want to join this network but don’t have a Nav email address I can let you know who to contact to get one.
