Hey There You Nav Girls

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day, and last night the men of the Navigators put on the third annual Nav Valentine’s Day Banquet to honor the women in the ministry. This year I helped out by being a lyricist. Rob Hodges, Bryson Bard,  Zack Latham and I rewrote the lyrics to “Hey There Delilah” (hear the original here) into the instant classic “Hey There You Nav Girls,” which was then sung live at the banquet. As writers, we took a few liberties here and there but I think in the end we put together a pretty good song. Since it was a little wordy (much more so than last year’s “Nav Girls“) we had one man since each verse and the bridge, and then we all joined in during the chorus. Here are the lyrics.

Hey there you Nav girls, what’s it like in Tallahassee
We’re a couple feet away and tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Doak can’t shine as bright as you
We swear it’s true

Oh, you encourage me
Oh, you encourage me
Oh, you encourage me
Oh, you encourage me
You encourage me

Hey there you Nav girls I know pouring out is hard
But just believe us when we say that many times you set the bar
We have it good
You live the life that Jesus would
If he were a girl

Oh, you encourage me
Oh, you encourage me
Oh, you encourage me
Oh, you encourage me
You encourage me

They captured you in freshmen week and put you in an IBD
Now you know the Navigator spiel
Your summer’s on an STP, next year you’re on SLT
You can draw The Bridge, The Hand, The Wheel
That’s the deal

Hey there you Nav girls, don’t you worry ’bout the res halls
You are dying to yourself, all for the spreading of the Gospel
Moldy walls
We know your rooms are really small
It’s worth it all

Oh, you’re precious to the King
Oh, you’re precious to the King
Oh, you’re precious to the King
Oh, you’re precious to the King
Precious to the King

I know that my friend Chelsea posted a video of the second half of the performance on Facebook, but sadly only she is able to see the embed code or else I’d add it here. So if you’re not her friend you’ll just have to imagine it. I’ve already heard some people asking for an audio recording. We’ll see what we can do. UPDATE: My friend Austin was kind enough to let me upload his video of the performance (in its entirety) to my YouTube account. I’ve posted it above.

I’m going to share some photos with you using a website called thisMoment. It lets me group together a bunch of photos from my various Facebook friends  for easy viewing. Click here to see that. I’ll be updating it periodically as more shots are uploaded.

  • I just wanted to let you know that some of our Nav guys at STP in Snow Mountain Ranch Colorado rewrote your version and sang it to some of our Nav girls. I don’t have the lyrics, but i know that it was something spectacular, thanks for the inspiration. :)
Your brother in Christ (and navs),
