CONTEST: Win Donald Miller’s New Book

A Million Miles...

THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED. View the results.

I’m one of the Thomas Nelson book review bloggers. Earlier this week they were looking for bloggers to review Donald Miller’s upcoming book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. Now, Donald Miller is one of my favorite contemporary authors. So I had already preordered the book. Months ago, actually. But I couldn’t resist being one of the first to have it.

I got my copies on Thursday afternoon. Wait, they sent me two?! The note included with the books suggested the second copy could be given away to one of my blog readers. I’ve never had a contest on my blog before. Sounds like a great idea!

UPDATE: I’ve posted my book review of A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.

Check out the video for all the details.

Again, just answer this question: If somebody was going to turn your life into a movie, what would be that movie’s best scene?

I need your comment by 5PM EST on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Click here for a complete list of rules.

Good luck!

UPDATE: Check out this interview of Donald Miller conducted by Michael Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson.

  • I can only hope that my best scene will be my death. It's not that I expect to die in some profound or especially exciting fashion, I just imagine it'd be a great opportunity to show a montage of life highlights. Song played during final breaths? Something by Sigur Ros. Funeral dirge? "Minstrel Boy" by Joe Strummer. Freaking brilliant.
If it's possible, I'd like to take some artistic licenses with my life story. It could use more fight scenes. And muppets.

  • haha, this is awesome. i think the best scene of mine would be when i was in mexico serving with YWAM. when we would put on our open air programs for the small villages of the Yucatan peninsula i would take the mic and beatbox while our spanish translator would freestyle, this would be a great scene since it was such a simple and off the wall thing to do, but it really got the community involved and brought in a lot of the older "too cool for school" kids in to participate in the program, and had very powerful results.

below is a general idea of how part of the scene would go (this is actually us)

  • The best scene in a movie of my life would be the one where I win "A Million Miles in A Thousand Years." That or basic training, as much as it sucked, it's pretty awesome looking back on it now. Then again, maybe my birth, the world got a little better on that day 21 years ago… lol

  • The best scene of my life would have to be when I gave my life to Christ. I know it may be a bit cliche' but it's the most interesting and profound thing that i've done in my life. It would require the director to pipe in my inner monologue but i feel that it would be the turning point of a movie on my life. It would be the moment that marks the end of one person and birth of another. There would still be plenty of story to tell afterwards but I don't think anything would reach the heights of this moment/scene.

  • The contest is all over! Thanks to everyone who participated. Here are the results: http://jaledwith.com/2009/09/13/winner/
