Bryan Zhang has created a new video in his Generations series. The series highlights students and campus ministers in The Navigators who have been impacted by the discipleship of another student or staff. In this video Erin Garmon, a senior at FSU, shares how she was influenced by the discipleship of Haley Liles.
This past weekend the FSU Navigators went on their annual beach retreat to Panama City. What I love about this trip is its focus. It’s all about getting to know each other, the process of beginning to build a Christ-centered community with people that until now you may not have known too well. If the above photo is any indication, we’re starting to become a family.
In today’s episode I talk about my experience teaching at the FSU Navigators beach retreat this past weekend. I lament my relatively few teaching opportunities and dream of a job in which I can use all my skills on a regular basis.
I have no idea what that terrible high pitched noise is. That’s what I get for using GarageBand.

If you find the Facebook Ticker to be information overload you can easily hide it using an ad-blocking browser extension. Below are step-by-step instructions for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari users. (Once I find a Windows 7 PC I will add instructions for IE.)
What You’ll Need
- Chrome + Adblock Plus; or
- Firefox + Adblock Plus; or
- Safari + Adblock
Normally an ad blocking extension is used strictly to block advertisements, but it can actually be used to filter out all sorts of page elements.
This week I talk about a workshop I’m creating and will teach this Saturday at a college ministry beach retreat. The workshop is on leadership, a subject I’ve never taught before. I spend most of this episode talking about the resources I’m using and a little about the direction I’m choosing to take with the material.

At the risk of being completely self-aggrandizing I’d like to share this video with you. As many of you know I am a volunteer campus minister with The Navigators at Florida State University. The Navigators are big on one-to-one discipleship, establishing spiritual generations through one person passing their life on to another. A friend of mine is creating a video series focusing on that vision and how it’s being played out.
I want to share a music recommendation with you. Recently Noisetrade.com gave away an EP called His + Hers by a band called The Hawk in Paris. I downloaded it and think it’s great. The band is an amalgam of talent, featuring Dan Haseltine (lead vocalist of Jars of Clay), Jeremy Bose, and Matt Bronleewe. The style is a blend of electronica and acoustic sounds. Lyrically the songs are love laments, each melancholy, calling to mind the revealing, awkward, and even dark moments experienced as a result of unrequited or rejected affection. The words are oddly yet satisfyingly counterbalanced by the songs’ catchy melodies.
This is a seven-track EP. A full-length album will be released in the spring of next year.
I recommend you head over to Noisetrade and download a three-track preview of His + Hers today. The entire EP is available on iTunes and AmazonMP3. You can also like The Hawk in Paris on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.

Today on the podcast I recall the events of September 11, 2001 as seen through my eyes. It’s hard to believe it was ten years ago. It’s hard to believe I was a seventeen-year-old senior in high school ten years ago.

iPhone App for Dividing Carpool Expenses
Today I wrote a quick post on the Commuter Services of North Florida blog on a slick iPhone app for carpoolers.
It’s good to be back. In this episode, the first in three weeks, I talk about special moments in time, the importance of being sensitive to their presence, and how easy it is to let busyness drown them out.
