When I find something particularly awesome on the web I like to share it with you. Also includes news about my website.

“If You Love Her” by Jars of Clay

Here’s the newest song by Jars of Clay, recently performed live on The Wally Show.

And they have some great news to share too!

His Name is Lionel Worthington

What did the world do before it had Lionel Worthington? My roommate Zack has created a monster phenomenon. I really like his supporting cast in this latest installment of the Campus Safari series. My friend Hope does an amazing job. In the span of a couple minutes she goes from terrified to keenly interested, from uncomfortable to sassy. She delivers her final line perfectly. Adrian does an impressive job faking being hungover. At least I think he was faking.

The cast behind the camera is roughly the same. Bryan Zhang is the director and writer. Patrick Gines is the cinematographer. Tyler Sununu, another of my roommates, tries his hand at boom operator.

The Curious Case of Lionel Worthington

“I’ve been serious about two things in my life: alcohol safety and Barbara Walters.”

Lionel Worthington just won’t go away. And that’s a good thing. Here he is in the fifth installment of Campus Safari and the second service announcement on alcohol safety. As always Mr. Worthington is played by my roommate Zack Latham. The PSA was written and directed by Bryan Zhang.

As with the previous videos in this series my friends make up the entire cast and crew. Sam, the guy in the elevator with Lionel, is both a Nav and is being discipled by the student who I disciple. There are a few takes of Sam in this video that slay me. Patrick is once again the director of cinematography. Dion tried his hand at boom operator for the first time and, so far as I can tell, did an excellent job.

These videos keep getting better. The production value is much higher than the earliest installments. Although if you listen carefully you can hear Lionel’s accent change from time to time. If you’re curious—and I know you are—the gags about Barbara Walters and the Golden Girls are both inside jokes. I find it hysterical that these jokes made it into a project that someone is actually paying for.

A New Place to Land

I wanted to let everyone know about my new landing page found at andrewledwith.net. It’s a very simple page designed solely to direct visitors to my various homes on the web.

This new landing page solves a few problems.

  • The address jaledwith.com is a little difficult to remember.
  • When you go to jaledwith.com you land on the home page of my personal blog, a page that’s always changing. I’ve often thought about transforming that page into something static but always found plenty of reason why that wasn’t a good idea.
  • I now have two websites where I am the sole contributor: jaledwith.com and howdoitknow.net. I wanted a way to direct users to both without having to give out two addresses.

A while back I made an introductory page at whois.jaledwith.com (which I’ve now redirected to whois.andrewledwith.net), and it has its uses, but it’s very verbose. I wanted a page someone could quickly scan.

This is a first draft. I’m sure I’ll make changes to it over time. As always I’d love to get your feedback.

The Monday Monologue Podcast: Now Available on iTunes

The Monday Monologue, my weekly podcast, is now available on iTunes. I could have added it much earlier but I wanted to wait until I’d made cover art I was proud of. What do you think of what I came up with?

I’m not much of a graphic designer but I think it looks pretty good. I’m all about minimalism as you can probably tell from the websites I’ve made, so this cover art is in keeping with what I value in good web design.

Subscribe and Review

You can help me out in two ways.

  1. You can subscribe to my podcast, either through iTunes or your favorite RSS reader.
  2. You can review my podcast. It doesn’t have to be anything huge, just a rating (between one and five stars) and a little blurb to go with it. You can write your review in iTunes, either in the desktop program or the mobile app.

The Revenge of Lionel Worthington

Lionel Worthington is back and better than ever in the fourth installment of Campus Safari. My roommate Zack reprised his role as the awareness avenger. This time he’s advocating alcohol safety. Once again the short film was directed by Bryan Zhang.

Almost everyone else who had a hand in making this film is a friend of mine. Rachel plays the startled woman enduring Lionel’s lesson. Clint is her on-screen and real-life boyfriend. Patrick returns as the man in charge of cinematography.

I was hoping we hadn’t seen the last of Campus Safari. Only three episodes were produced for the Breathe Easy Initiative (plus one special edition film). I’m now expecting many more.

Guest Authors Coming Soon

I will be spending the next several days in Middle-of-Nowhere, Kentucky taking a much-needed personal retreat. I’ve been told I won’t have phone signal, which should mean the 3G on my phone will be equally useless. This is actually a good thing, as I’m trying to get away from civilization so I can write, read, and invigorate my soul.

At first I figured I would put my blog on hiatus. But I realized I had an opportunity to try something new. Over the next week and a half you’ll see three posts appear on my blog written by guest authors. I wrote a post as a guest author for Churchm.ag a couple years ago and had a great time doing it. All this year I’ve been working at expanding the scope of what this blog is all about, even adding new types of content such as my podcast. I think having guest authors write for my blog is a great new addition, one that I will probably incorporate regularly in 2012.

Spiritual Generations – Sara deLeon

Watch on Vimeo: Generations – Sara

Bryan Zhang has created his third video for the Generations series, which highlights college students who have been impacted by the discipleship of a student or staff in The Navigators. In this video Sara deLeon, a senior at FSU, shares how she was influenced by the discipleship of Lauren Paxton.

Ten Years of Interruptions

Watch on ESPN: The Big Finish (October 24, 2011)

ESPN’s sports debate show Pardon the Interruption first aired on Oct 22, 2001. It’s been one of my favorite shows ever since. I don’t have cable in my home anymore, but I still keep up with the show through its podcast. Yesterday was their first show since the ten-year anniversary. The video above shows the celebration at the end of the show.

You’re going to have to get in the WABAC machine for this one. Each spring all the campus ministries at FSU come together for an event called Rez Week (short for Resurrection Week) just before or just after Easter. In 2004 the FSU Navigators worship team led worship at one of the Rez Week corporate meetings. Those songs were recorded by the Wesley Foundation (where Rez Week was held in ’04) and two of those songs were made available online. I saved them to my computer and forgot about them until I stumbled across the files last night. I have to admit, I was pretty excited by the discovery.
