My Buffer Week

I write this to you from the Orlando airport, where my long layover has just turned into an even longer layover thanks to a half hour delay. I arrived here from Tallahassee at about 3:30 this afternoon. I won’t be taking off from Orlando until 7:55, assuming their current estimate is any good. And I’m not even flying into Hartford. It was cheaper to go through Boston. So when my next flight touches down I’ve still got a long drive home ahead of me. It’ll be well after midnight before I get to bed tonight.

An Overdue Christmas Recap

Leading Off - This has been a surprisingly slow week for me considering it’s the first week of classes and all of the students have just returned. I haven’t yet been on campus with the exception of last night’s Nav Night. That’s probably not a good thing.

So, Who’s At Fault? - To give a brief update on the whole car situation, I received good news from my insurance company. The adjuster agreed with me that the accident was the woman’s fault. I mean, after all, she hit me. This is a particularly interesting development since I was the one who received the citation. I bet the woman is pretty confused, probably angry too. I was very thankful. The bill to get my car fixed and to pay the deductible to get her car fixed would have been a very large bill for me. As it is I’m just stuck with a citation that’ll cost around $120. That’s not fun, but it could have been much worse.

Community & Conspiracy

Leading Off - It has been a very long time since I’ve posted anything and for that, to my five readers, I express my apologies. Each day I have either been very busy or so tired I don’t want to do much at all. But let me backtrack to just after Thanksgiving and get you all caught up.

Community - I’ve been feeling isolated since I moved out of Villa Special and into my permanent residence back in August. I live without any sort of community to rely on. Now, that might confuse some of you. You’re thinking, “Did he stop going to Nav Night? What about church? And he’s around people all day at work. He’s even got a roommate he likes now. What’s the big deal?” Let me differentiate between “community” and “socialization.” I would consider myself to still be a social person. Some places I’m forced to be social, work being one of those places. I don’t have much choice but to relate with my coworkers if I want to stay employed. And I do still go to Nav Night on Thursdays and to Wesley on Sundays. I’m still around other human beings. I still talk to people. My existence is acknowledged in this small part of the world I call my home.

Uneventful Break

If this week is any indication I think I am going to become the most boring person ever if I leave Tallahassee after college. In fact, I might still become the most boring person ever if they force me to move off campus. I might have to go back for a master’s degree and live in Rogers or New Hall.

Sorry. The reason I’m freaking out is that I have had so little social contact outside of my family for the last week. And don’t get me wrong, the main reason I go home and the main reason I look forward to going home is because of my family. But I have spent so many hours reading and so many hours on the internet and so many hours not around other folk that, even as introverted as I am, I think I might go bananas.

Exams & Christmas Party

I looked at the date of my last post and I’m just now starting to realize how much happened since then. Hopefully I can do it justice.

But before I launch into all of that let me first say this: my sister has gotten into two schools already! Woo hoo! Auburn and Texas have both recognized greatness. I’ll continue to keep you posted on this. I’m really excited to see where she ends up (as I’m sure you all are).

Since that last post I have taken five tests and I am about to take a sixth. My finals week started early. Last week I had an oral test in Spanish and finals in Career Development, Risk Management and After The New Testament. This past Tuesday I took a written Spanish test and this afternoon I’ll be taking a final in Speech. Then I’ll be done. It’ll be t-minus one semester and counting.

Welcome To Hump Year

This is an update one week in the making. First of all, happy new year! You know how Wednesday is hump day? Well, does that make 2005 hump year?

Okay, so I never told you about Christmas. No big present this year, just lots of little ones and cash. Some DVDs (Star Wars Trilogy, The Game, Return of the King Extended), CDs, (Paul Colman Trio, Sanctus Real, tobyMac, Jeremy Camp), and a Spanish/English Bible. All super cool stuff. It’s just as well I didn’t get anything big (size or price wise); I don’t have the room in Tallahassee for much more than a new toothpick, and it won’t get used if it’s left here in CT. Plus I could always use the money.

He Is Christ The Lord

For to us a child is born,
To us a son is given,
And the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
  –Isaiah 9:6

“The days are coming,” declares the LORD,
“When I will raise up to David a righteous Branch,
A King who will reign wisely
And do what is just and right in the land.”
–Jeremiah 23:5

Today in the town of David
A Savior has been born to you;
He is Christ the Lord.
–Luke 2:11

A Public Apology

I have a feeling that I will soon be in the doghouse with just about everyone that I know here in Connecticut. You see, I haven’t hung out with anyone (except one person). They’re probably thinking that I don’t want to talk to them or spend time with them or that I’m a jerk or a combination of those things. These conclusions would make sense, drawing from the apparent circumstances and my personal history.

Youth Group State Of Mind

One week of Christmas break is done already! That’s not good. At all. I don’t ever want to go back.

Though I’m not sure why. I got my grades on Thursday and I did a lot better than I thought I was going to do. I got an A in Christian Apologists. Let me rephrase that: I got an A in the most important class I will take for my undergraduate degree. Never in a million years did I think I would pull an A. Other class turned out good too. I got an A- in Spanish, a B in Microeconomics, and a B in Financial Markets (somehow). I’m on a hot streak all of a sudden. My overall GPA is up to a 3.4. I’m amazed at the grace God’s pouring out on my grades. I’m waiting for someone to tell me it’s a typo. Continue reading ‘Youth Group State Of Mind’

Two Thirds Of The Way

It’s official: the semester is over! I got into a discussion with my roommate about just how much college I’ve completed. I am 5/8ths of the way done going by semesters (not factoring in summer semesters), but I have 80 out of 120 credits I need to graduate, so in that case I’m 2/3rds of the way. Either way, it’s getting scary. There’s not too much left to go.

I’m writing these things to you from beautiful Marlborough, Connecticut. At least they tell me it’s beautiful; it’s been dark since I got here. The sun sets way too early here. But it is good to be home. Or rather, it’s good to be with family. I’m not really sure where home is anymore. But at any rate, I’ll be up here in the northeast from now through January 4th. If you want to hang out give me a call or email or IM or something.
