Last Thursday I gave the message at our weekly Nav Night meeting. Since most of our Bible studies are on Ephesians this semester Dave asked me to give a message on Ephesians, something that would be an overview of the entire book. I wanted to bring something to the table that the students probably weren’t getting in their study.
I decided to use Watchman Nee’s Ephesians commentary Sit, Walk, Stand as the model of what I would share. Nee’s take on Ephesians is that the book can be broken down into three parts: our position in Christ, our life in the world and our attitude toward the enemy. We sit with Christ in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6), we walk in a manner worthy of the calling we have received (Ephesians 4:1), and we put on the full armor of God so that we can stand against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:11).
The message was recorded and today was added to the ministry podcast. Listen to it and let me know what you think. I also encourage you to subscribe to the podcast (via iTunes or RSS).
I wanted to pass this along to you yesterday, but I didn’t have time to post a full post. This was from Vance’s sermon on Sunday. He was talking about prayer since they’re starting a week of 24/7 prayer this week. The basic structure of the message was that in prayer (a) we talk, (b) He listens, (c) He talks, (d) we listen.

So it’s been a few days. Wanted to let everyone know that I survived Hurricane Ivan. It didn’t hit Tallahassee too hard. He had some pretty strong winds and scattered rain, but no damage or flooding or anything like that. School was canceled on Thursday as a precaution, so that was cool.
The week that was. I managed to make it through my Christian Apologist class. I feel very unintelligent in that class. Everyone knows all this stuff about Hellenism and Stoicism and Platonism and Whateverelseism and I just don’t know anything about that stuff. The whole class is based on participation but every time I participate I show the whole class just how little I know. I like the topics, but don’t like my lack of outside knowledge.

The football season is over.
I’m serious. The Dolphins have the best chance to go 0-16 of any NFL team in years. At the most they’ll win 4 games. The Seminoles can’t win the ACC unless they win all the rest of their ACC games and Miami loses two ACC games. Since that won’t be happening, FSU won’t be going to a BCS game unless they finish #1 or #2 in the polls, which means winning all the rest of their games. That’s something I think they can do, but it also means that the teams ahead of them all have to lose at some point. So at this point we’re playing for the right to be in some second rate bowl game.

I’m sorry that it’s been so long since I’ve posted anything. I’m turning into “that guy” who has a blog but does nothing with it. I’ll do what I can to correct that.
Anyway, I’ve got to admit that the last few days have been very good. I am really liking my Spanish class. Since I’ve taken Spanish before, and because it uses our alphabet, it will be much easier at first than Greek would have been. I can’t say that I like the whole 9:05 AM start time, or the fact that it’s my only class on Friday, but on the plus side I do like my professor. He reminds me a lot of a good high school teacher, which sometimes I miss.
I had to rearrange my schedule to avoid taking a class at 8 AM, so I had to switch sections in my Financial Markets class. So now I’m taking that class at 11 AM with (guess who?) Brian, one of my roommates from Italy. I’ve got to say that I think that’s pretty cool. With all the thousands of people on campus it could have been easy for me to never have a class with anyone from that trip, and even easier for me to not have a class with one of the two other guys (Paulo graduated).
I’ve still only seen two people from the program: Brian and Jill. I’ve talked to Jessica, but everyone else is hiding. Or maybe I’m not looking in the right places.

So barring anything terrible happening in the next few hours I should be on my way back to Florida. I got my flight changed for free because of all the mess caused from Hurricane Charley. I’m still not sure who’s picking me up at the airport though. Kyle told me he’d find someone and that he’d let me know while I’m in Atlanta. I just don’t like stuff like this to be left to the last second.
My arm still hurts, but it’s better. I still can’t move it too much, but I guess that’s to be expected. As for my brain, well no one knows why I have seizures to begin with, so I really couldn’t tell you. I’m back on my meds, so I guess I’m good to go.

I didn’t have a Father’s Day post yesterday. This was not because I was swept up in my celebration of this Hallmark holiday, trust me. (Happy Father’s Day Dad!)
Saturday night I hung out with Ashley and Sarah over at [location]. I’d be more specific, but each time I try to write that sentence with where I was it sounds funny. It’s a house where some of Ashley’s relatives live, and she’s living there for the summer (or at least the time being, I realize now that I’m not sure how long she’s staying there). At any rate, that’s where I was. We cut strawberries (only after they made me feel bad for not cutting them), I made fun of the resident dog, we watched a movie called Beyond Borders that was okay but not what we thought it was, and caught up.
It was fun. Not like old times, which I’m happy about. I have this fear of not feeling like I’ve grown or changed when I see people that I haven’t seen for a long time. When things aren’t “just like old times” it means that things are changing, people are moving on, I’m growing. It was a good evening.
