Leading Off - It’s been a very busy two and a half weeks, filled with travel, family, a wedding, getting sick, a broken air conditioning unit, Rez Week and one wicked party. Where to begin?
Presenting Mr. & Mrs. Jeremy Howard - The Thursday before St Patrick’s Day I traveled from Florida to Nashville for my cousin Beka’s wedding. I had been eagerly looking forward to this trip for weeks. My wanderlust peaked when all the students left to go on spring break. I really needed a vacation.
Incidentally I was traveling on my sister’s birthday. It was the first time I got to see Alison on her birthday since she turned fourteen back in 2002. It’s weird to think about things like that, measuring time based on milestones missed. Since I arrived at around 9 PM central time I didn’t spend too much time with her on her actual birthday, but I did get to give her a gift in person. Strangely, she also gave me a gift. You’d think after nineteen birthdays she would have figured out how the process works.

Leading Off - The freshmen are coming! The freshmen are coming! Yesterday at 9 AM all the dorms on campus opened, which means that the Fall 2006 semester is officially underway. Well, not from a scholastic perspective, but from a ministry perspective. I have yet to make my first appearance in Dorman Hall, but that should happen later today.
Job Situation - I will be starting work at the Department of Elder Affairs this Friday. This new is awesome for two reasons: (1) it means that I can hang out with freshmen in Dorman Hall for nearly all of freshman week, and (2) it means I finally know when I’m starting! I was sent at email with forty-one attachments — forty-one! — to read up and learn about all the various procedures. I’m pretty excited about how things worked out.

I have a feeling that I will soon be in the doghouse with just about everyone that I know here in Connecticut. You see, I haven’t hung out with anyone (except one person). They’re probably thinking that I don’t want to talk to them or spend time with them or that I’m a jerk or a combination of those things. These conclusions would make sense, drawing from the apparent circumstances and my personal history.

Before I even get to how today went, I would just like to let you know that I can’t currently hear out of my right ear. This has happened once before. I just have to go to the doctor. He’ll put some red goo in it and it’ll be fine. It’s just sinus crap, but I hate it. And to prove my point:
So today was the bike and swim. It was just me, Pastor Tom, Jon and Kyle for the biking part. I thought I was going to die, no lie. I haven’t biked in probably six years. My legs were killing me. And in Florida no one needs a mountain bike (flat as a pancake) so this whole concept of changing gears was a new thing for me. But it was still fun. We took the ferry over to Rocky Hill then biked through Glastonbury, Old Wethersfield and back to the church in Wethersfield. We then went to over to a church member’s home to swim in her pool. Al Dowd and his two younger boys (not J.R. though) also came for the swim.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted something. Truth is that nothing much is happening. I’m still sick, although I’m doing better. I’ve lost my voice though. Haven’t had it in about 4 days. I went to Thagard (medical center on campus) and they gave me some drugs. They also said that my taking NyQuil was probably making it worse. Great. As a result of being sick I think I’m skipping the prayer retreat. I’m going to try to tough out the Remix tonight.
Since I thought this weekend would be all scheduled up I have plenty of time on my hands. I think I’ll end up reading more of Brave New World. It’s for my last paper of the year.
I’ll be sure to let you know how the Remix goes to tonight.
Hurray for being sick!
I’ve got some dang virus or the flu or something. Every muscle in my body hurts. My sinuses are going bananas. My throat is killing me. I would take my temperature, but I keep taking Advil before I remember to do so. I feel like I have a fever, but I don’t know it for a fact.
On the plus side, I made two new friends. Their names are NyQuil and NCAA Tournament basketball. They’ve given me the will to live through the weekend.
Everyone who told me that I was an idiot for taking a job with Night Staff needs to read this.
You were right.
