Why Is This Game So Popular?

So here’s the good news from yesterday. I got an email from FSU Housing. They gave me a housing contract for Rogers Hall. The email didn’t say that Scott and I got into Rogers, but I figure that they wouldn’t send us the contract if there weren’t at least a good chance. So we’re going to fax that in a see what happens.

Even VBS was good yesterday, though many of the trouble maker kids didn’t show up. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to make things run smoothly. I would have rather seen them have a change of heart. For the second straight day I worked with the game crew outside. We played one game with water and the other with water balloons. Whatever game we were suppose to play usually turned into the Get Andrew As Wet As You Can game. But whatever. I got them wet too.

Now for the good news from today. I get to see Nicole K Mason! Yay for the Angry Bassist.

Jesus Loves Street Kids

At least I’m not the only one who’s been getting a little annoyed by the “helper” kids at VBS. Tonight I think every leader had to raise their voice at least once. And these are mild mannered church folk. But they don’t want to see their church disrespected. If these street kids would just get it through their heads that they need to behave in the sanctuary the adults would get off their case. But that just isn’t happening. They’re talking, not even whispering, in the sanctuary when the rest of the program is going on. At the end of the night when kids were asked if they wanted to pray up front in the mic one of them came up and prayed for some rappers. They have a total lack of respect for authority. What really pisses me off is the way they treat Pastor Wendy, who has absolutely poured herself into these kids and they have been treating her like crap.

It sucks when you realize that it’s these people that Jesus wants you to get through to, because you just want to give up on them. It would be so much easier. Selfishly you almost start thinking that they deserve eternal damnation. Hey, if they don’t want to listen it’s their own fault. But that’s not true. It’s our responsibility as members of the body to share this message with everyone, even people who have a total lack of respect.

I’m going to be meeting with Nicole on Friday to talk about what devotionals we are going to be doing for the youth program. Hopefully she’ll be able to attend the trip to Six Flags on July 6, but she’s got a crazy work schedule this summer. If the kids at VBS are any indication I’m going to need all the help I can get.

Vacation Bible School

These last two days I’ve been helping out at my church with their Vacation Bible School program. It’s a little different than most that I’ve been apart of. First of all, it’s at night so that parents who work can volunteer. Second, each day is much shorter than the average VBS that I’ve been involved with - only 2 hours and 15 minutes. Both of these things have been easy enough to get used to.
